Online portals involved in heinous acts will be shut down: Hasan Mahmud
"Closing online portals is an ongoing process. Approving online portal is also an ongoing process. Online portals that actually do abominable things, or are not conducted with honest intentions, spread rumors or spread false news will continue to be shut down."
This was what the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud declared.
Responding to a question from reporters after unveiling the cover of the book 'Unnayane Ujjibane Sheikh Hasina' ( Sheikh Hasina in development and motivation) edited by poet and journalist Soumitra Dev, the minister said, "We are trying to send a list of unauthorized online portals to BTRC very soon, by today or tomorrow morning. If they get the list from us, they will close those. However, we will also inform the court, BTRCO will inform that the closure of the online portal is an ongoing process. If everything is done in a hurry, I don't think it would be reasonable to stop everything at once."
Regarding the fact that some online outlets have been shut down for some time, Hassan Mahmud said, "It was actually a misunderstanding. BTRC shut down many online portals. As seen there, the registered web portals even government web portals were shut down. It has been resolved immediately."
